DIZTURBIA.COM | RECORD INDUCTION | SKRILLEX "BANGARANG" (2012) | 11/28/14

I. OPENING THOUGHTS

So the next record to induct into the DVSNGH Record Collection is indeed,
Skrillex's "Bangarang" (2012), although, I wanna make note however,
it was originally supposed to been Deadmau5's "4 X 4 = 12" in this spot,
a vinyl/record I did PURCHASE (WELL OVER A MONTH AGO) from HMV
(Bramalea City Centre mall), and yeah, currently still awaiting arrival,
eventhough, I coulda bought it off of eBay (or Discogs.com), and gotten it
A LONGASS TIME AGO, and yeah, woulda been *HERE* writing about it.
I should note, I FUCKIN HATE HMV STORES, and its employees, some of
THE DUMBEST employees they got (especially in this Bramalea location),
and whatever got into my skull, to make me go buy from them, beats me.

II. THOUGHTS ON SKRILLEX

So as much as I HATE HMV's, and just LOVE the sight of, either seeing
em close down (like the HMVs in Sherway Gardens and Trinity Commons),
or downscale significantly in size (like the HMV in Square One), lol,
the subject here is not about HMV, it's about the man that is Skrillex!
Now who is Skrillex, shouldn't have to "explain this", but he is in fact a DJ,
as well as former vocalist, of (somewhat successful) American rock band,
From First To Last, who chose to switch industries (from rock to rave),
and yeah, needless to say, he is one of THE best things going today (2014)
in the genre that is EDM (Electronic Dance Music), amongst many other
big names, ala the likes of David Guetta, Daft Punk, Tiesto and Deadmau5.

III. TRACKLISTING

1. "Right In" (3:00)
2. "Bangarang (Feat. Sirah)" (3:35)
3. "Breakn A Sweat (Feat. The Doors)" (5:01)
4. "The Devils Den (Feat. Wolfgang Gartner)" (4:52)
5. "Right On Time (Feat. 12 Planet)" (4:05)
6. "Kyoto (Feat. Sirah)" (3:20)
7. "Summit (Feat. Ellie Goulding)" (6:13)

IV. TRACK REFERENCE

2. "Bangarang (Feat. Sirah)"
7. "Summit (Feat. Ellie Goulding)"
6. "Kyoto (Feat. Sirah)"
4. "The Devils Den (Feat. Wolfgang Gartner)"
3. "Breakn A Sweat (Feat. The Doors)"
1. "Right In"
5. "Right On Time (Feat. 12 Planet)"

V. FAVORITE TRACK

So my favorite song off of "Bangarang" is indeed its title-track (Track 2),
and no doubt, my (personal) most played Skrillex song of all Skrillex songs,
and I'm talking about *thousands* upon many listens to this one song.
Though I wouldn't call this Skrillex's "breakthrough" hit, which I believe,
credit goes to "Scary Monsters" (song, from the record of the same title),
but at the time it hit (mainstream) radio, it was HUGE, and played massively
(first Skrillex tune I spotted hearing in restaurants, stores, just everywhere).
This was also at the time Skrillex was nominated for 5 Grammy Awards,
3 of which he ended up winning, so yeah, added to epicness of the song).
And indeed, one of few songs I can say, holds my interest from start to end.

VI. OTHER STANDOUT TRACKS

So what's very much amazing about "Bangarang" (the record, as a whole)
is that it's a record, where (YEAH!), I DIG EVERY FUCKIN SINGLE SONG!
Altho, I wouldn't go so far to say, there's never a dull moment, on the album,
but every song held my interest, at one point, tho I gotta tell you (LOL)
I fuckin played them SO MUCH (to point of absolute total DEATH),
it's kind of lost its luster to me, but yeah, at the height of my listening peak,
I indeed saw it as THE GREATEST ELECTRONIC/DANCE MUSIC EVER
created in my (15+) years exposure to anything 'electronic/dance' related,
as well some of the most DEMONIC electronic music I'd ever heard and
(track 4) "The Devil's Den" is direct example of that, just absolute madness!

VII. LEAST FAVORITE TRACKS

So from a *sound point* (melody, production) "Bangarang" is a 10/10,
now the vocals and lyrics on this record, yeah, the obvious weak-point,
whether it's Skrillex's own (which are heavily digitized, to say the least),
or Sirah's, which I must admit, I thought sounded pretty cool *at first*,
but they started to grow annoying eventually, I started to realize with
(track 6) "Kyoto", despite its awesome *SKULL-SMASHING* synth riff.
The one song I didn't like all too much, at first, was (track 7) "Summit",
which came off initially like a "love song" between two babbling robots,
but the more I listened to it, the more I got into it, becoming the one song
I could play 'on repeat', and yeah, (after about 10 times), I had enough.

VIII. ARTWORK

So the artwork of "Bangarang" shows a red SKRILLEX logo atop a
smokey white/grey dry wall-like texture, with smashed/broken glass,
(inside, shows a "non-shattered" alternate version, of the same graphic),
pretty cool looking, nothing really mind blowing, but it doesn't matter,
tho I must say, I like it far far better than his "Recess (2014)" record cover,
since the whole alien/UFO/space martian thing ain't really my vibe.
I also would like to note that I even made my own specially customized (yes)
"Bangarang" decal/skin design for my iPod Touch MP3 player (see pic),
thanks to the help of the UK-based customizing site WRAPPZ (see link),
same source I used for my ASKING ALEXANDRIA iPhone design (see pic).

IX. CLOSING THOUGHTS

So I'm definitely glad to have inducted the Skrillex Bangarang EP into
my record collection, as opposed to Skrillex's later-released, first full record
(Recess LP, 2014), which I must say, was a huge letdown (in my opinion),
having been on the Skrillex *bro-wagon* (lol) from the very beginning
(My Name Is Skrillex EP, 2010), and being just BLOWN AWAY by it
10 BILLION TIMES more than anything he had done in his former band,
From First To Last, who strangely, started putting out way better albums
*after* Sonny Moore (real name of Skrillex) had left the band (in 2008).
Hopefully, Skrillex's next LP or EP is able to matchup (or even surpass)
Skrillex's finest, cutting-edge work-to-date, to me, being the Bangarang EP.
