DIZTURBIA.COM | RECORD INDUCTION | ROADRUNNER UNITED "THE ALL-STAR SESSIONS" (2005) | 08/15/14

I. OPENING THOUGHTS

So the next record to be inducted into the DVSNGH record collection is
ROADRUNNER UNITED'S "The All-Star Sessions" super-album (2005),
which consists of members of various rock/metal bands, past and present
(at the time) on the American major (record) label Roadrunner Records.
So like, each song on this record here, would contain a band member (ie.
vocalist+guitarist+bassist+drummer+other) from a different band, and yeah,
the songs would sound like a transformation of all their bands put into one
(in most cases, although some songs, takes the style of just one band).
Not sure, if such record had ever been done before, with other rec. labels,
aside from charity ordeals, but here, it was a real treat for 'metalheads'.

II. THOUGHTS ON ROADRUNNER UNITED

So yeah, as I kinda mentioned already, Roadrunner United is not "a band",
but a mix-up of bands, or "supergroups" lead mainly by 4 members of
already-established metal bands like Slipknot (drummer, Joey Jordison),
Machine Head (vocalist, Robb Flynn), Trivium (vocalist, Matt Heafy)
and Fear Factory (guitarist, Dino Cezares), each producing various tracks.
Tho, it did come out 9 years ago, the music (to me) still sounds 'current',
and yeah, those who've enjoyed it, are all hoping for a "follow-up" record
to come, but highly unlikely there will be one, since the purpose/concept
of the record was to celebrate the (record) label's 25 years in existence.
Who knows, maybe they might do a "40th anniversary" project, for 2020.

V. FAVORITE TRACK

So my favorite song on "Roadrunner United", yeah, is an unlikely favorite,
a dark horse, I guess you can say, but for me (track 6) "Tired N' Lonely".
Now, as far as the group (of band members) who assembled this song,
so it features the vocals of Keith Caputo, of a band called, Life Of Agony
(I'm not that fond of), the guitars of Jim Root, and drums of Joey Jordison,
both of Slipknot (a band I'm very fond of), and the added guitars, from a guy
named Acey Slade, from The Murderdolls (a band I did like at one time).
But yeah, I remember listening this song ALOT, on the (bus) way home from
Bramalea mall, at the time (2005), having known it for only "a year", now
here I am, 9 years later, sick of Bramalea mall... even MORE tired n' lonely!

VI. OTHER STANDOUT TRACKS

So this fuckin record, what can I tell you, SOOO many songs I liked from it,
don't think I'll be able to cover half of them in this short space, but I'll try.
Starts of with such HIGH momentum with "The Dagger" and "The Enemy"
(tracks 1 and 2), but yeah, (slight downer) the songs are random in its order,
but putting that aside, when listening to this record, you are gonna find/hear
some of THE BEST DAMN *****METAL***** EVER MANUFACTURED (lol),
especially with tracks 8 ("Dawn of a Golden Age"), 17 ("No Mas Control"),
and 11 ("Baptized In The Redemption"), and then, thrown in *by surprise*,
you'll get a pop song (track 10 "No Way Out") or a somber/campfire song
(track 12 "Roads"), I guess, to 'cool your ears down' between MASSACRES!

VII. LEAST FAVORITE TRACKS

So yeah, the Roadrunner United record compilation is meant to please fans
of the bands (on and off) Roadrunner Records, also to of which, includes
bands/musical styles I DON'T LIKE, but whatever, we all have our tastes,
and since this here is indeed a record to please all (or most) METAL FANS,
you gotta please those who love their DEICIDE (track 3 "Annihilation") and
those who love their (sissy) KING DIAMOND (track 4 "In the Fire"), and
eventhough I do like THE MISFITS, sorta, the misfit 'flavored/themed' song
(track 15) "I Don't Wanna Be (A Superhero)" wasn't really all that good.
But of all the heavy metal "dream teams", on this record, I gotta give the
cake to Team "Constitution Down" (track 14) for the most boring song.

VIII. ARTWORK

So the artwork of the Roadrunner United "The All-Star Sessions" record
shows a huge embroidered logo, similar to that of a sports (soccer) team,
stitched ontop of a (Navy + Maroon) pinstriped "sports jersey"-like material,
ALMOST looking like "the real thing", but yeah, when you actual get it
(either by CD or LP), yeah, you'll see it's indeed a PAPER PRINT-OUT.
Not that it really matters to me, idunno, maybe ALL THE BAND MEMBERS
(who participated on the record) got a copy made with 'real jersey fabric'.
Still a cool looking cover, to say the least, but yeah (like millions of others
who own/like this record) hoping to see a SEQUEL/FOLLOW-UP one day.
Owning this record feels (almost) like holding a symbol of HEAVY METAL.

IX. CLOSING THOUGHTS

So if you weren't aware, but these records aren't FREE, by any means,
costing me some money to get these, saying for example, like (uh) the $95
it cost me to get a (used) copy of Marilyn Manson's "Anti-Christ Superstar",
as fucked-up as it kinda is to be buying *that* to begin with (I know, eh).
This (used) copy of Roadrunner United cost me "28 Pounds ($51 Dollars)",
coming to me from Germany, btw, so quite "the hobby" I got going here.
And I may as well break 'news', of the fact I just surpassed my credit limit
(of $7000) yet again, oh and course, how my (restaurant) job is 'at risk' atm,
due to my on-and-off ordeals with "the law" (ie. my recent 'semi-arrest'),
so yeah, I may as well repoint myself as "Dave Bieber", from this point on.
